tom taylor - unitary executive

unitary executive

by silent creeping nature of predestined acts
even the polaroid of the empty room is broken
whistles are silenced in closeted corridors here
where the single authority sings in the bathroom

no pleasure in our masks and drums beating now
forever warriors against errorists in disguise as us
the same forces gathering toward what nirvana as
we gasp their air at our expense and choke on dust

as if what claims us is our solitude and mandate for
silence in the broken room where no light shines
as the cloak is gathered around the impenetrable
and the rule of men replaces what’s left for us to bear
